Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers are continuing the investigation in Saturday afternoon's motorcycle-involved traffic crash that resulted in the death of a Salem-area couple on Highway 20 east of Sweet Home.

According to Trooper Casey Hunter, on August 4, 2012 at approximately 3:14 p.m., a 2008 Harley Davidson motorcycle operated by EDMUND ALEXANDER COTE, age 61, from Salem, was westbound on Highway 20 near milepost 35 negotiating a curve when it traveled off the right side of the highway and collided with a guardrail. Passenger JOAN ROOT COTE, age 58, was ejected off the motorcycle, over the guardrail and down an embankment.

The passenger was pronounced deceased at the scene. The operator was transported by LifeFlight to Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend where he was pronounced deceased after arrival. Both were wearing protective helmets.

OSP troopers from the Albany Area Command office are continuing the investigation. Troopers from the Salem office, Linn County Sheriff's Office and Sweet Home Fire Department assisted at the scene.
