A Salem-area girl died and two others were injured Thursday evening in a single vehicle crash on Highway 22E about four miles east of Stayton. Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers from the Salem Area Command office are continuing the investigation.
According to OSP Trooper Andrew Goffrier, on August 7, 2008 at approximately 6:00 p.m. a 1997 Honda Accord four-door driven by MARTIN RAMIREZ-TORRES, age 24, from northeast Salem, was westbound on Highway 22E near milepost 16. As the vehicle transitioned from a four lane divided highway into an undivided two lane section it crossed the centerline and eastbound lane, left the highway and struck a tree where it flipped onto its top.
RAMIREZ-TORRES was seriously injured and transported by LifeFlight to Good Samaritan Hospital in Corvallis. He was using safety restraints.
An unrestrained rear seat passenger identified as AUDRIANA MARIE ROLDAN, age 18, from Salem, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Right front passenger FLORA REBECCA HERNANDEZ, age 19, from Salem, was using safety restraints and received minor injuries. She was transported by ambulance to Santiam Hospital.
The investigation is continuing with the assistance of an OSP crash reconstructionist. Stayton Fire District, ODOT, local emergency responders and Crisis Chaplaincy Services assisted at the scene.
Highway 22E was closed in both directions with a detour through the area for about 3 hours.
