In late July / early August, the Rogue Area Drug Enforcement (RADE) team completed a several month investigation which culminated with the execution of two search warrants, the arrest of four individuals, and the seizure of two marijuana growing operations. Additionally, firearms, money, marijuana prepackaged for re-sale, and a surplus of other items of evidentiary value were also seized.
On July 31, 2009, a cooperative effort involving RADE detectives, Grants Pass Department of Public Safety detectives, an Oregon State Police Bomb Squad detective, and an Oregon State Police trooper, revealed a marijuana manufacturing and distribution organization in Grants Pass and rural Josephine County.
The investigation began with the execution of a search warrant at a Grants Pass residence on Redwood Avenue by the RADE team. Marijuana growing equipment, marijuana plants, prepackaged marijuana for resale, scales, packaging material, $800 cash, and other miscellaneous items were seized. One subject was arrested and cited to appear in court at a future date.
While police were at the Redwood Avenue address, two people showed up who were identified as the supply source for the marijuana, and they delivered one-quarter pound of marijuana. Detectives arrested CHRIS ALEXANDER, age 46, and ROMAN PRENTNER, age 20, for Unlawful Delivery of Marijuana. Subsequent further investigation determined the origin of the marijuana and another search warrant was obtained.
During the early morning hours on August 1, 2009, detectives continued their investigation and executed a search warrant at ALEXANDER's residence located at 1629 Happy Camp Road in Obrien. Detectives initially encountered four pit bull guard dogs outside an eight foot tall fenced area attached to the residence. The fence concealed an outdoor marijuana growing operation with 125 mature plants (up to 7 1/2 feet tall) and 9 immature marijuana plants.
BRANDON PRICE, age 25, who also lives at the residence with Alexander, was contacted and subsequently arrested on charges of Unlawful Possession, Manufacturing, and Delivery of Marijuana. Detectives also located rooms in the residence containing grow lights and reflective hoods previously used to grow marijuana indoors. Multiple pounds of processed marijuana, three loaded firearms (one near the front door), scales, packaging material, drug notes, and other items of evidentiary value were also seized.
ALEXANDER, PRENTNER, and PRICE were all lodged at the Josephine County Jail on various narcotics charges. The investigation was referred to the Josephine County District Attorney's Office for further review.
Anyone with information regarding suspicious drug activity or marijuana growing operations is encouraged to call the RADE tip line at (541) 955-6970.
The interagency narcotics RADE team is comprised of personnel from the Grants Pass Department of Public Safety, Oregon State Police, Josephine County Sheriff's Office, Josephine County District Attorney's Office, and the Josephine County Community Corrections.
