Fatal Traffic Crash - Highway 62 near Shady Cove

A 19-year old Central Point-area resident died and another person received serious injuries Sunday afternoon in a single vehicle crash on Highway 62 near Shady Cove.
On August 17, 2008 at approximately 5:27 p.m., a 2000 Ford Explorer driven by RANDALL V. BRIM, age 19, from Central Point, was westbound on Highway 62 near milepost 17. After passing another vehicle, BRIM lost control of the Ford Explorer for unknown reasons and drove off the roadway. The Ford Explorer struck a power pole and rolled several times before coming to rest on its top.
BRIM was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced deceased at the scene. It appeared that he was using his safety restraints at the time of the crash.
Right front passenger, ALVIN T. CAMPBELL, age 19, from Central Point, was seriously injured and transported to a Medford-area hospital for treatment. He was using safety restraints.
Oregon State Police troopers from the Central Point Area Command are continuing the investigation. Shady Cove Police Department, ODOT, Shady Cove Fire District 4 and Mercy Flights ambulance assisted at the scene.
One lane of Highway 62 was closed for approximately three hours.
