A California man died and his wife was seriously injured Thursday afternoon in a single vehicle rollover crash on Highway 97 near Chiloquin.
According to Oregon State Police (OSP) Sergeant Robert Fenner, on August 21, 2008 at approximately 2:48 p.m. a GMC Envoy sport utility vehicle driven by EDWARD J. MILLER, age 76, from Bass Lake, California, was northbound on Highway 97 near milepost 236 when, for an unknown reason, it drove onto the dirt shoulder on the east side of the highway. The vehicle began to slide and rolled across both lanes coming to rest partially on the southbound shoulder and traffic lane.
EDWARD MILLER was pronounced deceased at the scene.
His wife / passenger, BARBARA MILLER, age 75, was seriously injured and transported by Chiloquin Ambulance to Sky Lakes Medical Center in Klamath Falls.
Both individuals were using safety restraints.
OSP troopers from the Klamath Falls Area Command office are completing the investigation. Merrill Police Department and ODOT assisted at the scene. Highway 97 was closed intermittently over a three hour period.
