Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers are continuing the investigation into Tuesday afternoon's single vehicle fatal traffic crash on Highway 22E east of Gates that resulted in the death of an adult male and injuries to an adult female.
According to OSP Sergeant Craig Ball, preliminary information indicates on August 23, 2011 at approximately 8:40 a.m. 2003 Cadillac four-door driven by DANNIE LEE PARK, age 68, from Lyons, was westbound on Highway 22E near milepost 38. For an undetermined reason, the driver lost control, crossed over the eastbound lane and about 100 feet down an embankment on the south side of the highway.
DANNIE PARK was pronounced deceased at the scene. He was not using safety restraints.
His wife/passenger, TONI ANN PARK, age 66, was transported by ground ambulance to Salem Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. She was using safety restraints.
OSP troopers from the Salem Area Command office are continuing the investigation into the cause of the crash.
Gates Rural Fire Protection District and ODOT assisted at the scene. The highway was reduced to one lane of traffic for 3 hours.
