Two Lane County residents died Thursday evening in a fatal traffic crash on Highway 99W about 2 miles north of Junction City. Three children in one of the vehicles received non-life threatening injuries. Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers are continuing the investigation.
On August 27, 2009 at approximately 8:55 p.m. a 1994 Toyota Corolla driven by KENNETH BOWMAN, age 33, from Junction City, was traveling south on Highway 99W near milepost 107 with his three children. His vehicle was struck by a northbound 1998 BMW driven by DEBORAH FERNANDEZ, age 48, from Philomath. For an unknown reason, the BMW crossed over the centerline causing a head-on collision.
BOWMAN and FERNANDEZ were pronounced deceased at the scene.
The three children, Tanner Brown, age 10; Samuel Bowman, age 4; and, Amanda Bowman, age 1, were all transported to Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend with non-life threatening injuries.
All occupants were wearing safety restraints and there was air bag deployment in both vehicles.
Highway 99W was closed for about 3 1/2 hours while the scene was being investigated.  OSP was assisted at the scene by the Lane County Sheriff's Office, Junction City Fire Department, and ODOT.
