Oregon State Police (OSP) Criminal Investigations Division detectives, with the assistance of the Oregon State Medical Examiner's Office, are continuing a death investigation following the discovery of unidentified human remains in a burnt motorhome east of Brookings.

According to OSP Sergeant Teresa Bowersox, on August 29, 2011 at approximately 8:30 a.m. a report was received regarding a motorhome heavily damaged by fire in a remote section along the Chetco River east of Brookings. OSP troopers, Brookings Fire Department, Brookings Police Department, and Curry County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene and found the smoldering remains of a motorhome on state land near the 98000 block of N Bank Chetco River Road. Subsequent initial investigation confirmed the motorhome contained the remains of an unidentified person.

OSP detectives responded to lead the investigation and will be working with the State Medical Examiner's Office to confirm the sex and identity of the remains.

In addition to the above listed agencies, OSP is being assisted in the fire investigation by the Office of State Fire Marshal.
