An Alabama man was arrested last Thursday when an Oregon State Police (OSP) trooper discovered approximately 12 pounds of marijuana in the rented vehicle he was driving on Interstate 84 in the La Grande area. The OSP Drug Enforcement Section is continuing the investigation associated with the arrest and seizure.
On August 25, 2011 at 11:48 a.m. an OSP trooper stopped a rented 2011 Chevrolet HHR on Interstate 84 near milepost 262 driven by ROBERT NICHOLAS MAYS, age 28, from McCalla, Alabama for a speed violation. Subsequent investigation during the traffic stop led to the discovery of approximately 12 pounds of marijuana concealed inside the vehicle. An OSP drug detection canine assisted during the traffic stop and seizure of the marijuana which has an estimated value of $30,000.
MAYS was arrested without incident and lodged in the Union County Jail for Unlawful Manufacture, Possession and Delivery of Marijuana.
