Oregon State Police (OSP) Fish & Wildlife Division troopers arrested a Sutherlin-area man Tuesday morning on firearms and wildlife crime-related charges following an execution of a search warrant at his home. The arrest is not related to an ongoing investigation into the illegal kill and waste of a trophy White-tailed buck deer in Sutherlin earlier this month.

On August 25, 2011, a tip was received from an informant alleging unlawful hunting activities involving SHAWN STEVENS, age 38, from Sutherlin. OSP Fish & Wildlife Division Senior Trooper Wayne Merritt initiated an investigation and obtained a search warrant for STEVENS' residence at 279 Taylor Street.

On August 30, OSP Fish & Wildlife troopers, assisted by Patrol Division troopers and Sutherlin police, executed the search warrant where they contacted STEVENS and his mother, MARJORIE STEVENS, age 58.

Troopers located and seized:
  • A loaded firearm
  • Set of 5x5 Elk antlers
  • Set of 4x3 deer antlers
  • Set of forked horn deer antlers
  • Less than an ounce of Marijuana

SHAWN STEVENS, who is a convicted felon, was lodged in the Douglas County Jail for Felon in Possession of a Firearm. He is also being charged with Unlawful Possession of Elk Antlers and Unlawful Possession of Deer Antlers (2 counts).

MARJORIE STEVENS was lodged in the Douglas County Jail by Sutherlin Police Department for an unrelated charge. She was also cited for Unlawful Possession of Less than an Ounce of Marijuana.
