Over 5,300 Child Complete ID Kits Handed Out at 2008 State Fair
09/02/2008
Ms. Judy Hayes, Program Analyst
Oregon State Police Missing Children & Adults
Office: (503) 934-0188

The Oregon State Police - Missing Children Clearinghouse handed out 5,395 free Children Identification Kits and photographed over 1,000 children during a four-day stretch at the 2008 Oregon State Fair.

This was the first year at the State Fair that the Oregon State Police - Missing Children Clearinghouse distributed the newer ID Complete Child Identification and DNA kits that contain the cheek swab for DNA collection. The kits only take a few minutes to fill out and contain valuable information useful to police in the event that a child became missing.

In addition to the ID Complete kits, OSP temporary tattoos (OSP star/badge) were handed out and a digital camera/portable printer was on hand and used to photograph children to place in the kits.

The child ID Complete kits were purchased with money raised during the 10th Annual Oregon State Police Missing Children Golf Benefit held in Salem. This year $9,300 was raised to help buy 15,000 to 17,000 child ID kits.

Parents and families not attending the Oregon State Fair may obtain a child ID Complete kit from the Oregon State Police - Missing Children Clearinghouse at (503) 934-0188 or outside Salem at 1-800-282-7155 or e-mail judy.hayes@state.or.us.  Please provide your name, address and call back phone number when making a request.
