An investigation through the weekend by Oregon State Police (OSP) Arson & Explosives Section detectives and Gilliam County Sheriff's Office, with the assistance of an Oregon State Fire Marshal, led to the arrest Monday of an Arlington woman on arson-related allegations that she set fire to her home last Friday.
On September 8, 2008 at 8:15 p.m. detectives arrested KARLA MARIE CLAUGHTON, age 38, from Arlington, on five counts of Arson in the First Degree and five counts of Recklessly Endangering Another Person. She was lodged in the Northern Oregon Regional Correctional Facility in The Dalles pending an appearance in court.
On Friday, September 5th, at approximately 8:10 a.m. firefighters from Arlington, Boardman, and Hermiston responded to a fire at the suspect's home located at 1325 W. 2nd Street in Arlington. No one was home when the fire was reported which resulted in approximately $150,000 damage to the interior and contents of the two-level with basement home. The investigation identified multiple fire sets inside the home.
Questions regarding this case should be directed to Gilliam County District Attorney Marion Weatherford at (541) 384-3844.
