Fatal Traffic Crash - Highway 197 south of Maupin

Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers are continuing the investigation into Friday evening's two vehicle crash on Highway 197 south of Maupin that resulted in the death of a Madras-area man.

According to OSP Trooper Mark Jubitz, on September 10, 2010 at approximately 7:06 p.m. a 2006 Kawasaki motorcycle operated by JODY LYNN HOPKINS, age 41, from Madras, was northbound on Highway 197 near milepost 57 when it crossed the centerline and collided with a southbound 1990 Buick driven by ROBERT WORTHEY, age 73, from Bend.
HOPKINS was wearing a protective helmet and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
WORTHEY was using safety restraints and his car's airbags deployed. He was treated at the scene for minor injuries but did not go to a hospital.

OSP troopers from The Dalles Area Command office are continuing the investigation.
Personnel from Maupin Ambulance, Wasco County Sheriff's Office and ODOT assisted at the scene. Highway 197 was closed about three hours during the investigation.
