Linn County Sheriff Tim Mueller reports that investigators are looking into a suspicious fire that destroyed the city hall building in Mill City Monday night. Linn County 911 emergency dispatch received a call shortly after 8 p.m. Monday from a person reporting the fire. Firefighters from Mill City and Lyons responded and extinguished the fire. The building, which is located at 252 SW Cedar and also housed the city's municipal court, is reported to be a total loss. No other buildings were damaged.
The city's finance clerk, Joy Cronin, age 46, was injured in the fire and transported to Salem Hospital. She was later transferred to the burn center at Legacy Emanuel Hospital in Portland.
Silverton and Stayton fire departments also responded to the fire. The Linn County Sheriff's Office is being assisted by the Oregon State Police Arson & Explosives Section, Office of State Fire Marshal, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and a Portland Fire Bureau accelerant detection canine.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
