Fatal Traffic Crash - Highway 101 south of Gold Beach

Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers are continuing the investigation into a Wednesday afternoon fatal traffic crash on Highway 101 about nine miles south of Gold Beach that resulted in the death of a Gresham-area man.
According to OSP Sergeant Scott Punch, on September 15, 2010 at approximately 5:38 p.m. a 2003 Ford Excursion driven by SIERRA NICOLE RIGEL, age 17, from Brookings, was southbound on Highway 101 near milepost 341 when it traveled across the centerline and collided with a northbound 2005 Kawasaki motorcycle operated by DANNY MICHAEL NUDO, age 45, from Gresham. After impact, the Ford continued off the highway colliding into a tree.
NUDO was pronounced deceased at the scene. He was wearing a protective helmet.
RIGEL was transported by ambulance to Curry General Hospital for a precautionary medical examination and later released. She was using safety restraints and her vehicle's airbags deployed.
OSP troopers from the Gold Beach work site are continuing the investigation.
The crash happened at the south end of a highway work zone. OSP was assisted at the scene by ODOT, Curry County Sheriff's Office, Cal-Or Life Flight, Pistol River Fire Department and Tidewater Contractors traffic flaggers.
