A Roseburg-area man wanted for absconding parole was arrested by an Oregon State Police (OSP) trooper, with the help of the Douglas County Sheriff and other officers, Thursday afternoon north of Roseburg after he attempted to elude and fought with officers while resisting arrest.
On September 16, 2010 at about 4:00 p.m. OSP Fish & Wildlife Division Senior Trooper Don Frerichs stopped an orange Dodge pickup on Highway 99 at Page Road north of Roseburg for a traffic violation. The driver, later identified as STEVEN C. RODDY, age 43, from Roseburg, fled on foot with Frerichs in pursuit for approximately 1/2 mile through parking lots and a trailer park.
With help of several citizens, Frerichs found RODDY in a trailer park. RODDY fought with the trooper until pepper spray was used on him.

Douglas County Sheriff John Hanlin was the first law enforcement officer to arrive and assisted Frerichs who had been partially affected by the pepper spray. A Roseburg police officer and several other OSP troopers assisted.
RODDY was transported to the Douglas County Jail and lodged on the following charges:
  • Warrant - Absconding Parole & Probation
  • Attempt to Elude a Police Officer on Foot
  • Resisting Arrest
  • Escape in the Second Degree
  • Interfering with a Police Officer
