Approximately 1600 marijuana plants were located Monday at a large scale outdoor grow site in Malheur County about ten miles from Ontario near the Snake River. The investigation is continuing into the marijuana discovery that had an estimated value of nearly $4 million.
On September 15, 2008, Oregon State Police detectives assigned to the Baker County Narcotics Enforcement Team located the outdoor marijuana grow site in Malheur County during marijuana flights conducted in conjunction with the National Guard. Detectives notified the local area task force and Malheur County Sheriff's Office who coordinated the eradication of 1603 "very healthy plants", each which would yield about 1 to 2 pounds of finished marijuana product.
No suspects in custody and the investigation led by Malheur County Sheriff's office is continuing. Questions regarding the investigation should be directed to the Malheur County Sheriff's Office.
