A Grants Pass-area man is awaiting sentencing following his conviction last Thursday in Josephine County Circuit Court on multiple charges related to the sexual abuse of a juvenile age female over a 5 year period. The case was investigated by Oregon State Police (OSP) Criminal Investigations Division detectives, and prosecuted and tried by Josephine County Deputy District Attorney Ryan Mulkins.

Following a one-week trial, a jury unanimously found CRAIG ALAN SWINNEY, age 55, guilty of the following charges:
  • Sexual Abuse in the First Degree (6 counts)
  • Rape in the First Degree
  • Sodomy in the First Degree
  • Sodomy in the Second Degree
  • Unlawful Sexual Penetration in the Second Degree
  • Unlawful Sexual Penetration in the First Degree

SWINNEY is held in the Josephine County Jail pending a sentencing hearing.

SWINNEY was arrested by OSP detectives May 17, 2010 after he was indicted by a Josephine County Grant Jury. The case was investigated by OSP Detective Tom Harrison with the assistance of Detective John Riddle and Detective Chris Kaber.

Questions regarding the trial and pending sentencing should be directed to Josephine County Deputy District Attorney Mulkins.
