OSP Traffic Stop Leads to Arrest of Federal Fugitive - Interstate 84 at Mosier

A man wanted on U.S. Marshals Service and Washington State warrants was arrested Tuesday night by Oregon State Police (OSP) during a traffic stop on Interstate 84 in Mosier.
On September 20, 2011 at approximately 6:40 p.m. OSP Sergeant Julie Wilcox stopped a Chevrolet Camaro with five occupants for a speed violation westbound on Interstate 84 at Mosier. One of the passengers identified as RUSTY SHANE STURGILL, age 34, no known address, was arrested after OSP confirmed he was wanted for Probation Violation out of Washington County and by the State Parole Board for Parole Violation.
A second passenger was arrested for furnishing false information to police and transported by Senior Trooper Michael Holloran to Northern Oregon Regional Correctional Facility (NORCOR). After arriving at NORCOR, OSP confirmed his true identity as WILLIAM MARTIN SHAWL, age 27, from Oroville, Washington. SHAWL was wanted on several warrants and lodged as a Fugitive from Justice:
  • US Marshals Service warrant for Probation Violation (3 counts)
  • Washington State Department of Corrections for Probation Violation - Escape and Failure to Register as a Sex Offender
SHAWL is also lodged on two counts of Furnishing False Information to Police and Failure to Register as a Sex Offender.
