Fatal Traffic Crash - Interstate 5 north of Glendale

A Medford, Oregon man died Sunday afternoon in a single vehicle traffic crash on southbound Interstate 5 about three miles north of Glendale.
On September 27, 2009 at 2:33 p.m. Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers and lcoal emergency personnel responded to a reported fatal motor vehicle crash southbound Interstate 5 near milepost 83. Preliminary investigation indicates a 1993 Ford pickup driven by SHELDON MASTERSON, age 52, from Medford, was southbound when his vehicle experienced an apparent tire blowout. The pickup left the roadway onto the outside shoulder where it rolled several times. MASTERSON was pronounced deceased at the scene.
A female juvenile passenger was transported by ambulance to Three Rivers Hospital in Grants Pass with non-life threatening injuries.
Both were using safety restraints.
The right southbound lane was closed for about four hours while Oregon State Police troopers investigated the crash.  The investigation is continuing.
Douglas County Sheriff's Office, Azalea Fire Department, Glendale Ambulance, and the Oregon Department of Transportation assisted at the scene.
