A Lacey, Washington man is in custody Monday morning after he was chased down on foot over an approximate half mile by Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers near Tualatin. The man tried to flee from an Interstate 5 traffic stop during which troopers found over 2 ounces of cocaine, a large amount of cash and other evidence.

On September 27, 2010 at approximately 3:10 a.m. an OSP trooper stopped a white 2001 Chevrolet Impala displaying Washington license plates southbound on Interstate 5 near milepost 288 for traveling 90 mph in a 55 mph speed zone. The car was occupied by three males, one of which was later identified as passenger LOGAN T. RIX, age 21, from Lacey, Washington.

Subsequent investigation during the traffic stop, with the assistance of another OSP trooper and a drug detection canine, led to the car's trunk where they found a bag containing a large amount of cash. RIX said it was his bag before fleeing on foot northbound in the southbound lanes, nearly being struck by a couple vehicles as two troopers pursued him on foot. A third trooper remained with the two other occupants at the stop location.

The two troopers chased RIX about a half mile as he ran across the freeway lanes and tripped jumping over a guardrail. As the troopers caught up to RIX, he got up to continuing fleeing so a taser was deployed and he was taken into custody without further incident.

Further search associated with the traffic stop led to the seizure of over two ounces of cocaine, more than $9500 cash, a small amount of marijuana, and other evidence.

RIX was taken to the Washington County Jail and lodged for:
  • Unlawful Possession, Distribution and Manufacture of a Controlled Substance – Cocaine
  • Resisting Arrest
  • Disorderly Conduct

He was also cited for Unlawful Possession of less than an Ounce of Marijuana.

The driver and other passenger were not arrested. The driver was cited for the speed violation.
