Sergeant Jeff Fitzgerald
Oregon State Police - Grants Pass
(541) 955-6372

A Grants Pass-area man died Wednesday afternoon when the vehicle he was driving struck a tree and overturned along Highway 260 (also known as Riverbanks Road) as it turned off from Highway 199 south of Grants Pass.
On September 30, 2009 at approximately 4:47 p.m. a 1986 Ford F150 pickup driven by STEVEN LOUIS FLOREA, age 42, from Grants Pass, had just turned eastbound onto Highway 260 from Highway 199 when, for an unknown reason, it drifted off the eastbound shoulder. The pickup collided with a tree and rolled over onto its top pinning him inside.
Despite extrication efforts by Rural Metro Fire personnel, FLOREA was pronounced deceased at the scene. Safety restraint use information is not available.
Highway 260 was closed intermittently for approximately two hours during the investigation and while rescue crews and tow trucks worked at the scene.
OSP troopers from the Grants Pass work site are continuing the investigation.
Rural Metro Fire, Grants Pass Department of Public Safety, ODOT and Fairgrounds Towing assisted at the scene.
