A 55-year old Oregon City woman died Thursday afternoon from injuries sustained in a September 27th traffic crash on Highway 99E just north of the Interstate 205 overpass. Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers are completing the investigation.
According to OSP Trooper Ted Moisan, on September 27, 2010 at approximately 3:35 p.m. a 2004 Mazda van driven by MELANIE MIEKEY, age 31, from Canby, was stopped for a red stop light southbound on Highway 99E just north of the Interstate 205 overpass. A 2003 Harley Davidson operated by HARLA JANE LAKIN, age 55, from Oregon City, crashed into the back of the van ejecting LAKIN over the top of the van and onto the roadway.
LAKIN was critically injured and transported to Oregon Health Sciences University for treatment. She was wearing a protective helmet. OSP was notified by the hospital that LAKIN died Thursday from her injuries.
MIEKEY was transported by ambulance to Willamette Falls Hospital with minor injuries where she was treated and released. She was using safety restraints.
The investigation indicates LAKIN's attention was distracted and she didn't see traffic stopped ahead of her when she crashed into the back of the van.
OSP was assisted at the scene by Clackamas Fire District #1 firefighters.
