Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers arrested three California men Thursday morning after a traffic stop uncovered approximately 28 pounds of marijuana in their vehicle northbound on Interstate 5 south of Ashland.
On October 9, 2008 at approximately 9:26 a.m. an OSP trooper stopped a 2000 BMW 528i displaying California license plates northbound Interstate 5 near milepost 11 for a traffic violation. Subsequent investigation led troopers to find approximately 28 pounds of high grade marijuana, individually packaged and vacuumed sealed, inside black garbage bags concealed in the car's trunk. An OSP drug detection canine assisted in the seizure of the estimated $140,000 worth of marijuana.
Troopers arrested driver JOSE MARIA VALENCIA-CEBALLOS, age 21, and passengers JOSE LUIS CHAVEZ-RODRIGUEZ, age 32, and GERRADO AGUILAR BARRETO, age 18, all from San Pablo, California. They were lodged in Jackson County Jail on Unlawful Possession, Distribution, and Manufacturing of a Controlled Substance – Marijuana.
