Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers are continuing the investigation into a three vehicle fatal traffic crash that resulted in the death of a 19-year old Culver-area resident Saturday evening on Highway 97 about twelve miles south of Madras.

On October 9, 2010 at approximately 4:19 p.m. a 2002 Chevrolet Impala four-door driven by YARDLEY ANTONIO RICO, age 19, from Culver, was northbound on Highway 97 near milepost 111 when, for an unknown reason, his vehicle crossed into the oncoming lane of travel. The Chevrolet sideswiped a 2003 Subaru Forester driven by KENNETH DALE MARVEL, age 65, from Edmonds, Washington, and then colliding head-on with a second vehicle, a 2002 Dodge pickup driven by JERRY R. PROSSER, age 74, from Madras.
The Chevrolet Impala and Dodge pickup came to rest blocking the highway. The Subaru received minor damage to the driver's side mirror and a bicycle mounted on a rear rack.
RICO was pronounced deceased at the scene.
MARVEL and his passenger TERRI LOUIS ALEXANDER, age 64, from Edmonds, Washington were not injured.
PROSSER and his passenger RUTH ANN BARNES, age 74, from Gearhart, were treated for non-life threatening injuries at St. Charles Medical Center in Redmond.

Safety restraint usage is still under investigation and air-bags were activated on the Chevrolet and Dodge at the time of the collision.
Jefferson County Sheriffs Office, Jefferson County Fire & Rescue personnel, and ODOT assisted at the scene.
Highway 97 was closed in both directions for two hours while emergency responders worked to render medical assistance to injured parties and investigate the crash scene.
