Two Idaho men died Wednesday evening in a single vehicle rollover crash on Highway 95 near Burns Junction south of Jordan Valley. Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers are continuing the investigation with assistance from the Malheur County Sheriff's Office.
Preliminary information indicates on October 14, 2009 at approximately 10:20 p.m., a 2000 Chevrolet Tahoe driven by RON TIBBETT, age 46, from Wilder, Idaho, was northbound on Highway 95 near milepost 63 when, for an unknown reason, it drifted off the southbound shoulder. TIBBETT overcorrected, hitting a fog marker and slid sideways across the highway where it rolled multiple times before coming to rest in a field facing westbound.
TIBBETT and passenger, JOSEPH GEARY, age 50, from Marsing, Idaho were both ejected and pronounced deceased at the scene. There was no evidence of safety restraint use.
Two dogs in the vehicle were also located deceased at the scene.
OSP troopers from the Ontario Area Command office and an OSP collision reconstructionist are continuing the investigation into the cause of the crash.
The Malheur County Sheriff's Office, Jordan Valley Ambulance and ODOT assisted at the scene.
