Fatal Traffic Crash - Highway 224 east of Estacada

A Gresham-area man died Sunday afternoon when he lost control of his motorcycle and slid underneath an oncoming pickup and travel trailer on Highway 224 about twenty miles east of Estacada.
According to Oregon State Police (OSP) Recruit Jose Cortez, on October 19, 2008 at approximately 2:15 p.m. a 2005 Kawasaki motorcycle operated by MILO EVAN POXLEITNER, age 25, from Gresham, and was at the rear of a group of three motorcyclists traveling eastbound on Highway 224 near milepost 45. POXLEITNER was attempting to negotiate a right curve when he lost control and his motorcycle slid on its side into the westbound lane and underneath a 1994 Chevrolet pickup pulling a fifth-wheel trailer.
POXLEITNER was pronounced deceased at the scene. He was wearing a protective helmet but reportedly purchased the motorcycle a few weeks ago and had not obtained a motorcycle endorsement.
The pickup's driver, BRADLEY RAINES, age 52, from Milwaukie, and passenger CHRISTOPHER RAINES, age 31, from Seattle, Washington, were not injured. Both were using safety restraints.
OSP troopers from the Portland Area Command office are continuing the investigation.
Clackamas County Sheriff's Office, ODOT and local emergency responding personnel assisted at the scene.
Highway 224 was closed until approximately 7:30 p.m.
