Double Fatal Traffic Crash - Highway 42 east of Tenmile

Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers are continuing the investigation into a Saturday night single vehicle fatal traffic crash that resulted in the death of two people and injuries to two others along Highway 42 miles east of Tenmile in Douglas County. The vehicle occupants are from Oregon and Minnesota. Names are being released following confirmation of next of kin notification.
On October 24, 2009 at approximately 9:35 p.m. a 2007 Chevrolet Impala four door driven by JASON E. WIESS, age 37, from Tenmile, Oregon was westbound on Highway 42 near milepost 68 when he lost control attempting to negotiate a curve at a high rate of speed. The car rolled several times before coming to a rest in a field on the north side of the highway.
JASON WIESS was transported by ambulance to Mercy Medical Center in Roseburg where he died after arrival.
Right rear passenger KAREN K. POURRIER, age 44, from Fergus Falls, Minnesota was ejected and pronounced deceased at the scene.
Right front passenger, SHANNON SMITH, age 32, was transported by ambulance to Mercy Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
Left rear passenger, MICHA WIESS, age 44, from Erhard, Minnesota was ejected and critally injured. He was initially transpoted to Mercy Medical Center and later transferred by air ambulance to Legacy Emanuel Hospital in Portland.
Safety restraint use information is not available.
OSP troopers from the Roseburg Area Command office are continuing the investigation. Alcohol and speed are contributing factors.
