On October 30, 2009 at approximately 10:30 p.m. OSP troopers from Tualatin and Portland responded to a reported vehicle / pedestrian crash southbound Interstate 5 near milepost 287.  The preliminary investigation indicates THEODORE MICHAEL BENNETT, age 45, from Beaverton, was walking southbound on the west shoulder of Interstate 5 when he attempted to cross the three southbound freeway lanes.  BENNETT was struck in the left southbound lane by a 2009 Toyota SXD driven by SEAN McLEARY, age 31, from Portland.
BENNETT was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Neither McLEARY nor his passenger were injured.  McLEARY stopped immediately and cooperated fully with the investigation.
All three southbound lanes were closed for about three hours while the OSP Collision Reconstruction Unit investigated. Traffic was detoured around the scene by ODOT.  The investigation is continuing.  No citations have been issued.
OSP was assisted at the scene by Tualatin Police Department, Washington County Sheriff's Office, Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue, ODOT, and the Washington County Medical Examiner.
