Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers are continuing the investigation into Sunday afternoon's fatal traffic crash that resulted in the death of a 17-year old female and injuries to four other people on Highway 26 about four miles north of Madras.
According to OSP Senior Trooper Clint Prevett, on October 30, 2011 at approximately 3:20 p.m. a 1990 Geo Prizm driven by OLIVIA JEANNE MOCKUS, age 17, from Bend, was eastbound on Highway 26 near Fir Lane when it drifted onto the south side shoulder. MOCKUS overcorrected and crossed into the westbound lane where it collided with a westbound 2006 Chrysler van driven by DALEEN McELHANEY, age 38, from Portland. Both vehicles came to rest off of the highway.

MOCKUS was pronounced deceased at the scene by Jefferson County EMS and AirLink personnel. Passenger LOMELI "KAREN" RUIZ, age 17, from Bend, was injured and taken to Mountain View Hospital in Madras. She was released Sunday evening. Both are students at Bend High School.

DALEEN McELHANEY was injured and transported to Mountain View Hospital in Madras. Two passengers in the van identified as daughter SADIE McELHANEY, age 12, and son KELTON McELHANEY, age 8, were transported by ambulance to Mountain View Hospital with minor injuries.

Highway 26 was closed for approximately one hour after the crash.
OSP troopers from the Madras and Bend offices are continuing the investigation into the cause of the crash.

Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, Madras Police Department, ODOT, and Jefferson County Fire and EMS personnel assisted at the scene.
