Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers are continuing the investigation into Tuesday evening's fatal traffic crash that resulted in the death of an elderly California man on Highway 39 about eight miles west of Merrill.
On November 1, 2011 at approximately 6:52 p.m. a station wagon driven by IRVINE TOWNE, age 79, from Tulelake, California, was southbound on Highway 39 when it attempted to pass a commercial truck pulling two trailers loaded with hay on the right side at an intersection. The station wagon crashed into the right side of the trailers.

The truck's driver, TREVOR ALVES, age 22, from Klamath Falls, was uninjured during the crash.
Klamath County Fire District I personnel, Kingsley Field Fire Department personnel and ODOT assisted at the scene. The highway remained open but restricted to one lane of travel during the investigation.
