Oregon State Police (OSP) is continuing the investigation into a Friday morning two vehicle fatal traffic crash on Highway 197 about eighteen miles south of The Dalles that resulted in the death of one person.
On November 13, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. a 20022 Nissan Xterra operated by THERESA RICHEY, age 21, from The Dalles, was southbound on Highway 197 near Tygh Ridge Road when it lost control on the snow covered highway.  The Nissan crossed into the northbound lane colliding with a 1979 GMC pickup with camper operated by MORRIS JONES, age 75, from Gresham.
The Nissan's right front passenger, CHERYL ANNE SCHUGT, age 55, from The Dalles, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Two other Nissan passengers were injured identified as SHARIE SCHUGT, age 28, from The Dalles, and THERESA RICHEY'S one month old daughter.  THERESA RICHEY and SHARIE SCHUGT are daughters of the victim.
JONES received non-life threatening injuries.
All occupants were using safety restraints and the infant was in a safety seat.
The highway was partially closed for about four hours.
The investigation is continuing and no citations have been issued.
