Members of the Oregon State Police Madras work site, with the assistance of Madras Police Department and Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, conducted a compliance sweep of local registered sex offenders in the Jefferson County area.  A total of 123 registered sex offenders reportedly reside in this county, of which 28 were determined to be out of compliance with mandatory state registration requirements.
The compliance sweep started on Monday, November 1st and ended on November 19th. During the sweep, 78 offenders were contacted at their registered addresses.  Of the 28 offenders listed as out of compliance, one person was located and issued a citation to appear in lieu of custody.  The remaining 27 out of compliance offenders are currently being investigated for charges relating to failing to register as a sex offender. Fifteen offenders’ addresses were not verified for various reasons and two offenders were found to be deceased.
The Oregon State Police currently operates and maintains a reporting database for the state's registered sex offenders. A list of offenders, both on and off supervision can be obtained by calling the Oregon State Police at (503) 378-3725 Ext. 44429. The requestor will need to provide a name, mailing address and the city of zip code for which they seek list information.  Most requests are processed within one week.
