Fatal Traffic Crash - Highway 395 south of Pendleton

Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers are continuing the investigation into Monday morning's two vehicle fatal traffic crash on Highway 395 about nine miles south of Pendleton that resulted in the death of a Pilot Rock man and serious injuries to another person.
According to OSP Sergeant Sterling Hall, on November 22, 2010 at approximately 4:30 a.m. a 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer driven by DANNY D. SCHADEMAN, age 48, from Pilot Rock, was northbound on Highway 395 near milepost 9. SCHADEMAN lost control of his vehicle on an icy straight stretch of the highway, swerved into the southbound lane and was struck in the side by a southbound 1999 Mitsubishi driven by GARY M. LATHROP, age 44, from Pendleton.
SCHADEMAN was pronounced deceased at the scene. He was using safety restraints.
LATHROP was seriously injured and was transported by ambulance to St. Anthony Hospital in Pendleton. He was also using safety restraints.
OSP troopers from the Pendleton Area Command office are continuing the investigation.
Pilot Rock Police Department, Pendleton Fire Department and Ambulance Service, and ODOT assisted at the scene. The highway was closed about six hours.
