Passenger Dies from Injuries Sustained in Wednesday Traffic Crash south of Monmouth

Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers from the Salem Area Command office investigating Wednesday morning's single vehicle rollover traffic crash involving a Loomis armored vehicle on Highway 99W south of Monmouth confirmed passenger JOSEPH MICHAEL PABLO JR, age 24, from Corvallis, died Friday night at a Corvallis-area hospital.
On November 24, 2010 at approximately 7:52 a.m. a Loomis armored vehicle driven by JAMES P. RUSSELL, age 22, from Carlton, was southbound on Highway 99W near milepost 67 when it traveled off the west side of the highway, struck a tree and rolled several times before coming to rest on its top. Roadway conditions were dry at the time of the crash.
RUSSELL was not transported from the scene.
Rear passenger PABLO was transported by REACH air ambulance to Corvallis Good Samaritan Regional Hospital with critical injuries. According to OSP Sergeant Corey Simons, the Benton County medical examiner confirmed PABLO died from his injuries. The investigation indicates he was not using safety restraints.
RUSSELL was cited by OSP for Careless Driving. He was using safety restraints.
OSP troopers and Polk County deputies secured the scene until Loomis officials arrived to coordinate removal and property and the vehicle.
OSP troopers were assisted at the scene by Polk County Sheriff's Office, Polk County Fire Department, and ODOT. The southbound lane was blocked for 2 1/2 hours.
