On November 28, 2011 at 11:17 p.m. Umatilla County City/County Dispatch Center received a call concerning an injured adult lying in the roadway, approximately two miles north of Pendleton on Highway 11. Pendleton Police Department arrived on scene shortly thereafter. One individual was transported to St. Anthony's Hospital where he later died.
The victim of the fatal assault is identified as BUDDY RAY HERRON, age 42, a corrections officer at Eastern Oregon Correctional Institute.
JOSHUA CHARLES WEEKS, age 22, from Portland, was arrested and lodged in the Umatilla County Jail this morning on a charge of Murder and Parole Violation.
The Oregon State Police Criminal Investigations Division is leading the investigation with the assistance from Hermiston Police Department, Pendleton Police Department, Umatilla County Sheriff's Office, Morrow County Sheriff's Office, Stanfield Police Department, Umatilla Police Department, and Umatilla Tribal Police Department.
