Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers from The Dalles Area Command office are continuing the investigation into Friday morning's fatal traffic crash that resulted in the death of a 50-year old The Dalles-area man. The commercial truck driver's vehicle burst into flames but he was able to escape without injury.
On December 10, 2010 at approximately 5:30 a.m. a 2008 Toyota Tacoma pickup driven by MARTIN DAMON HUNDLEY, age 50, from The Dalles, was southbound on Highway 97 near milepost 6 when it lost control on the icy roadway. The pickup crossed into the northbound lane where it collided into the front left corner of a 2007 Freightliner pulling a semi-trailer loaded with lumber products. After impact the pickup spun around, struck the semi-trailer and came to rest on the west side highway shoulder.
The commercial truck and trailer traveled across the southbound lane and slid along the guardrail before coming to a stop. The truck's driver, ANDREW T. COLLINGWOOD, age 43, from Homewood, Illinois got out of the truck before the truck and trailer burned.
HUNDLEY was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Both drivers were using safety restraints.
OSP was assisted at the scene by Sherman County Sheriff's Office, ODOT and Sherman County Fire Department.  Highway 97 was closed until 12 noon.
