An out-of-compliance predatory sex offender was arrested Wednesday by Oregon State Police (OSP) detectives east of Roseburg after he allegedly provided a false address when registering two months ago. A citizen's tip following the distribution of a community notification bulletin led to the man's arrest.

On December 11, 2008, OSP detectives arrested MILO MARLON CLAUGHTON III, age 45, in Idleyld Park east of Roseburg for felony Failure to Register as Sex Offender. CLAUGHTON registered with OSP in October and allegedly provided a false address. Since CLAUGHTON is classified as a predatory sex offender, flyers were circulated in the Hucrest neighborhood area near the address he provided during registration.

The community notification prompted a neighbor to contact law enforcement to advise CLAUGHTON did not live at the provided address. An investigation stemming from this citizen's tip led detectives to an Idleyld Park address at 146 Homestead Court where CLAUGHTON was located. CLAUGHTON, who was convicted in 1999 for Sodomy in the Third Degree, was arrested without incident at lodged at the Douglas County Jail.

Douglas County has a total of 586 registered sex offenders, eight of which are predatory. Under Oregon Statute, a person is a predatory sex offender "if the person exhibits characteristics showing a tendency to victimize or injure others and has been convicted of a sex crime".

The Oregon State Police currently operates and maintains a reporting database for the State's registered sex offenders. A list of offenders, both on and off supervision, can be obtained by calling the Oregon State Police at 503-378-3725 Extension 44429, or by email request at SexOffender.Questions@state.or.us. You will need to leave your name, mailing address, and the city, zip code information you want.
