Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers are continuing the investigation into Saturday afternoon's fatal traffic crash involving three vehicles on Highway 22 east of Idanha.
On December 19, 2009 at approximately 4:28 p.m. a Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by DORIAN JOSPEH DOLINAJEC, age 23, from Portland, was westbound on Highway 22 near milepost 57 when it appeared to pull across the centerline as if to pass another vehicle. As the Jeep moved partially across the centerline it sideswiped an eastbound 2004 Hyundai four-door with four occupants, then became airborne and crashed into an eastbound 2006 Ford pickup with one occupant.
The Hyundai's driver, ROBERT LEE RANDIS, age 69, from Terrebonne, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The vehicle's three passengers were all transported by ambulance to Santiam Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. They are identified as:
  • Right front passenger (victim's wife) BEVERLY J. RANDIS, age 67, from Terrebonne, with serious injuries;
  • Left rear passenger NICOLE BOWERMAN, age 10, from Sweet Home, with serious injures; and,
  • Right rear passenger KARLIE JEAN CALLIN, age 13, from Sweet Home, with minor injuries.
DOLINAJEC was seriously injured and transported by air ambulance to Samaritan Albany General Hospital.
The Ford pickup's driver, JESSIE E. ALWAY, age 61, from Bend, was transported by ambulance to Samaritan Albany General Hospital with minor injuries.
All occupants were believed to be using safety restraints.
OSP troopers from the Salem Area Command office and an OSP collision reconstructionist are continuing the investigation.
Linn County Sheriff's Office, Idanha Fire Department and ODOT assisted at the scene.  The highway was blocked about 30 minutes then open to one lane until about 10:00 p.m.
