A Shady Cove man died Wednesday evening in a single vehicle crash on Highway 234 northeast of Gold Hill near the intersection with Tresham Lane when he lost control of his vehicle and it rolled. A dog in the car also died as a result of the crash.
According to Oregon State Police Sergeant Tanya Henderson, on December 24, 2008 at approximately 6:30 p.m., a Chevrolet Monte Carlo driven by CASEY CATE, age 21, from Shady Cove, was eastbound on Highway 234 near milepost 9 when it lost control. The car left the roadway, hit a ditch and rolled ejecting CATE.
CATE was pronounced deceased at the scene. A dog in the car was also ejected and died.
The initial investigation indicates speed and alcohol are possible contributing factors. Troopers believe CATE was not using safety restraints.
Oregon State Police troopers from the Central Point Area Command office are completing the investigation. Jackson County Fire District 3, Mercy Flights Ambulance, ODOT and Twedell's Towing assisted at the scene.
