Fatal Vehicle / Pedestrian Crash - Highway 99E north of Gladstone

A Milwaukie-area man died Saturday morning following a Friday night crash on Highway 99E north of Gladstone when he was struck by a vehicle while attempting to cross the highway on foot.
According to Oregon State Police Trooper Ryan Tellier, on December 26, 2008 at approximately 10:00 p.m. ARNULFO ESPINOSA BORBON, age 57, from Milwaukie, was attempting to cross from the east side of Highway 99E to the west side on foot near S.E. Vineyard Road when he was struck in the left northbound lane by a 1996 Chevrolet two-door.
BORBON was critically injured and transported by AMR ambulance to Oregon Health Sciences University. According to hospital officials, BORBON died Saturday morning. Alcohol, limited visibility and unlawfully attempting to cross the highway were contributing factors.
The car's driver, CODIE NICHOLAS PHILO, age 21, from Gladstone, was using safety restraints and not injured.
Oregon State Police troopers from the Portland Area Command office are completing the investigation. No citations will be issued.
Clackamas County Sheriff's Office, ODOT, and Clackamas County Fire District I assisted at the scene.
