Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers are continuing the investigation into Wednesday morning's multiple vehicle fatal traffic crash on Highway 18 northeast of McMinnville.
The ongoing investigation indicates on December 29, 2010 at approximately 3:35 a.m. a 2005 Hyundai driven by ERICA NADA, age 49, from Beaverton, was westbound on Highway 18 near milepost 49 when it crossed the centerline and collided with an eastbound 2009 Freightliner truck pulling a tanker trailer driven by KEVIN G. CAULFIELD, age 45, from Newberg. After the initial collision the Hyundai came to rest in the westbound lane of travel and then was struck by a westbound 2000 Freightliner pulling a semi-trailer driven by EDWARD C. ROSERA, age 64, from Woodburn.
The Hyundai and 2000 Freightliner truck and trailer came to rest in the westbound shoulder ditch. The 2009 Freightliner came to rest in the ditch on the side of the eastbound lane and caught fire. McMinnville Fire Department responded to extinguish the fire that totally damaged the truck tractor unit.
NADA and passenger HYE KYUNG KANG, age 60, from Beaverton, were transported by McMinnville Ambulance to Willamette Valley Medical Center in McMinnville. KANG died after arrival at the hospital. NADA, who was driving with a suspended operator's license, was seriously injured.
Both truck drivers were not injured. All four persons involved in this crash were using safety restraints.
OSP troopers from the McMinnville and Salem offices are continuing the investigation to determine the cause of the crash.
McMinnville Fire Department, McMinnville Ambulance, Yamhill County Sheriff's Office, and ODOT assisted at the scene.
