Tools and Data

Introduction

The Department provides several tools for accessing data related to managing Oregon's water resources.  These tools attempt to provide both search capabilities as well as extraction techniques to allow our partners and customers to work with us more effectively.  Several of the links to data will take you to other organizations who collect water resource related data.  Each of those sites have their own data usage policies.  For data provided by the Oregon Water Resources:

Surface Water

Near Real Time:  Locate stream measuring sites around the state that provide near real time information.  Most of these links connect the the US Bureau of Reclamation or US Geological Survey web sites.
 
Historical Streamflows: Allows you to locate stream measuring sites around the state and request specific time periods of data.  Includes both active and inactive sites.
 
Peak Flow Estimation Program: Peak flow estimates for user specified sites in Oregon. A study of the magnitude and frequency of floods in western Oregon has been completed by the Oregon Water Resources Department (OWRD) in cooperation with the Oregon Department of Transportation and the Association of Oregon Counties. The study was undertaken to provide engineers and land managers with the information needed to make informed decisions about development in or near watercourses.

Hydroelectric Projects: Inventory of hydroelectric project sites in Oregon.  This web page allows you to locate hydroelectric sites in Oregon and access information about those sites. The information found here includes the person who owns the hydroelectric site, the project name, location, and more.
 
Dam Information: Inventory of dams in Oregon. This web page allows you to locate dam sites in Oregon and access information associated with them. The information you can find here includes the person or agency that owns the dam, the project name, location, and more.

Water Availabiltiy Reporting System (WARS): Estimated streamflow and surface water availability in Oregon.  Water availability is the amount of water that can be appropriated from a given point on a given stream for new out-of-stream consumptive uses.  For a detailed description of the WARS program and the methodology used to develop it, you may review the report titled Determining Water Availability in Oregon (PDF 4.6 MB). 

Interactive Mapping Tool:  This tool allows access to the vast majority of the information collected by the Department.  It allows users to control what data appears on a map, what area of the state and then to query against the map features for more detailed information.

Groundwater

Water Level Data: A collection of tools for accessing water level data collected by the Department and the US Geological Survey.  Included graphs, data downloads and a geographical interface among other options. 
 
Well Construction Information:  Frequently referred to as well logs, this database includes data and images of original documents on over 250,000 wells in the state of Oregon. 
 
Locate a Well Constructor:  A listing of all well constructors state wide who are licensed by the Department.

Mapping

Interactive mapping tool: This is a powerful tool that provide a geographical interface to most of the Department´s online data. 
 
Custom map tool by Township   or by Stream: This is a near line process that allows you to specify what the map should look like and then get a downloadable product. 
 
Download GIS Water Rights Data:   Allows you to download water rights data in standard GIS formats by basin statewide.
