If you are applying for service for electricity or natural gas, you may be asked to pay a deposit. For further information:
-
Contact your energy utility about how to show proof of your ability to pay.
-
The Commission has rules addressing how you can establish credit.
To determine the amount you will pay:
-
Energy utilities estimate your usage for one year and charge you one-sixth of that amount.
To pay in installments:
-
You can pay three installments beginning at the start of service, at 30 days, and 60 days. The payments will be $30 or one-third of the deposit, whichever is larger.
Your deposit will be refunded (with interest):
-
If you terminate service. Deposits will be used to pay any balance on your account.
-
Once you establish credit with the utility.
If you move to a new address within the same utility’s service area, the deposit will be transferred to your new account.
