Salem, Or. Internet e-mails are circulating that claim cell phone users must register their numbers with the national “Do Not Call” directory to prevent their cell phone numbers from being released to telemarketers.
Contrary to these e-mails circulating on the internet, cell phone numbers are NOTbeing released to telemarketers and you will not be getting telemarketing calls on your cell phone.
The Oregon Public Utility Commission notes these misleading e-mails seem to surface in January and June and they are circulating again.
“Consumers are getting unnecessarily worked up by these misleading e-mails. We want consumers to know there are no plans to release cell phone numbers to telemarketers and there is no deadline to register your cell phone number on the national “Do Not Call” list,” said PUC Commission Chairman Lee Beyer.
Both the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) have previously informed the public the rumors are false.
In addition, FCC regulations prohibit telemarketers from using automated dialers to call cell phone numbers.
