Salem, OR. In response to budget reductions for state agencies, the Oregon Public Utility Commission will close on Friday, September 17th as Commission employees will take a mandatory unpaid furlough.
The September furlough day is the seventh of 10 closure dates the state has scheduled over the current two-year budget period. Each furlough day will save an estimated $2 million in personnel costs. While the closures affect both management and non-management employees, many state workers will take up to four additional days of unpaid furlough on a floating basis over the remainder of the biennium.
Please call your utility company if you wish to make payment arrangements or check on the status of a payment. If you have questions regarding a water, natural gas, electric or telephone company regulated by the Commission, please contact the Commission’s Consumer Services Division when we reopen Monday September 20th between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm toll free at 1-800-522-2404.
Applications for the Telephone Assistance Programs are available online at www.rspf.org.
The remaining mandatory unpaid furlough days are:
