Tony Morris was hired as the general contractor through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) to work on the new Silverton Senior Center.
“I finished my last job at a church and they didn’t have any more work. After that, I was on unemployment for about four months before this job,” Tony explains. “The funding from ARRA gave me a job.”
For Tony, it has been rewarding to work on a job that gives back to the community. This will be a place for seniors to meet for social, recreational, educational and health programs. In addition, the new commercial kitchen will help provide meals for senior citizens including Meals on Wheels.
The community of Silverton has been instrumental in getting this project off the ground and has provided an enormous amount of volunteer hours, fundraising and community support.
Thanks to the construction workers, engineers, metal roofers, landscapers and painters who have all worked hard to prepare for the Silverton Senior Center grand opening that will be on July 28, 2010.
