Recovery Act provides training to dislocated workers
John Cotton received training through the ARRA Dislocated Worker Program
John Cotton received training through the Recovery Act funded Dislocated Worker Program.
John Cotton worked in the gaming industry in Las Vegas for the last 25 years. When the gaming market crashed, along with the housing market, John decided to move to Eugene to be with his grandchildren.

John knew “it was time to retrain.” This was what eventually brought John to WorkSource Lane.  John wanted to get back to work right away, so he enrolled in the ARRA-funded Basic Manufacturing Certificate Program with Solar Emphasis at Lane Community College.  At the end of the training, John began participating in the Brighter Futures Project.  Through various assessments and workshops, he was able to identify what was going to be best for his future.

When John concluded that his career goal was to find something he would enjoy doing for the rest of his life, he found that being a baker was a perfect fit. Through Brighter Futures John completed all the necessary steps and is enrolled in the one-year baking and pastry certificate program at Lane community College. John’s ultimate goals are to get his two-year degree in the Culinary Program and to spend time with his grandchildren.
