HB 2370, which passed during the 2013 legislative session, requires all agencies that maintain a website or Web page that displays the agency’s rules or information relating to the agency’s rules, must display links to those websites on the Oregon Transparency website. To facilitate gathering these links the Department of Administrative Services provided all agencies access to an electronic form to be submitted by November 29, 2013.
This data was then aggregated in a data.oregon.gov dataset. Clicking on the link below will open a new window and redirect the user to Oregon’s National Award Winning website: data.oregon.gov. Here the user will be able to take full advantage of multiple tools to download, visualize, create graphs, create maps, filter data to mention a few.
These tools are available by clicking on the tabs located on the right just above the column headers. For example, the expenditures data can be downloaded in a variety of formats including CSV, JSON, PDF, XLX, and XML to name a few. To download the data select "Export" (blue tab) and then select the "Format" from the available formats. To visualize data select “Visualize” (green tab). The user can also create maps, graphs and filtered views and embed those views on other websites. If the data changes in the master dataset on data.oregon.gov the embedded views will automatically be updated.
Data.oregon.gov is powered by the Socrata platform. You can find many good resources on how to use the platform to socialize data by visiting the Socrata Knowledge Base and Community Forums.
