Women's Education and Empowerment
Women’s Health & Wellness Educational Forums

The Commission organizes and presents seminars to inform women about health issues such as menopause, heart disease, breast cancer and osteoporosis. These seminars have been presented in communities across the state and have reached close to 2,000 women. These forums seek to empower women with information to assist them in making informed health care choices in partnership with their health care providers.

Women & Financial Wellness Forums

When women have control of their finances, they will have the ability to control their futures. During 2002, the Commission sponsored statewide educational forums on women and finance. These forums were held in partnership with federal, state and private businesses. They were designed to empower women to take economic control of their futures and their lives. We held forums in 3 communities and reached close to 300 women.

Public Focus Meetings

Each year, several public focus meetings are held to put the Commission in touch with women around the state. By traveling to both metropolitan and rural areas, Commission members are able to take part in a meaningful dialogue, gather relevant information, and help provide services to women. Recent focus meetings have included information on legislative priorities and childcare issues.

Oregon Women and the Law

Oregon Women and the Law, was most recently updated in 1996. The book provides valuable information about women’s legal rights and describes basic legal principles. It gives advice on dealing with common family issues and problems, and it contains resource information that will help Oregon women know where to go for answers and services. It is distributed statewide women serving agencies, libraries, and individuals.

Quarterly Newsletter

In 1998, the Commission began publishing Oregon Women, a quarterly newsletter. The newsletter is a four-page information resource, including a page dedicated entirely to women’s health. This newsletter enables the dissemination of important information about women to Oregon residents, policy makers and advocates around the state. The newsletter is distributed to over 4,000 individuals and organizations.
